Health Issues

Responses
Federal and state governments support women through legislation, through funding for vaccines,
medical care, and refuges, and through policy and education campaigns. In 2008 the federal government responded
to the findings of the National Drug Strategy Household Survey, by almost doubling the tax on pre mix alcoholic
drinks from $39 per liter to $67 per liter.

The survey shows that teenage girls, are introduced to alcohol through RTD's (ready-to-drink-products). The increase
in tax will push the price of RTD's up by 30 cents and $1.30 per bottle. The federal government has raised up to $2 billion
from the new tax. This money should go towards Women's health fundings by non-government organisation's.

Effectiveness
The increase in excess tax by the federal government in an attempt to curb excess drinking of alcohol by teenage
girls has been critisised and supported. The anti drug foundation has issued statements in support of the policy
believing that it will help reduce the number of younger women drinking.
